How much do braces cost?
Every mouth is different. There is no standard fee. The doctor needs to complete an examination to evaluate on an individual basis.
Does orthodontic treatment hurt? A little discomfort after placement and after adjustments is normal. Tylenol or Motrin will usually control the discomfort.
Why do you need braces if your teeth are straight but your bite is off? Orthodontics isn't only for pretty teeth. A good healthy bite helps eliminate other dental problems in later years. It also helps prevent abnormal wear of teeth.
Do I continue to see my dentist for regular visits during orthodontic treatment?
Yes, regular check-ups and cleanings are required.
How long is full orthodontic treatment? 12-30 months depending on the difficulty and amount of treatment required.
How long do I have to wear my retainers? For the first 6 months you need to wear them 24 hours per day. After that we ask that you wear them at night time for an extended period of time. It depends on your individual treatment and the difficulty in holding your teeth in the corrected position. Your retainers are your guarantee.
At what age should I schedule an appointment for an orthodontic examination? Dr. Dunbar and the American Association of Orthodontists recommend an orthodontic screening by age 7.
